'Wonderful wit' Joe will be sorely missed

FEW could equal the contribution to pitch and putt of Dubliner, Joe Leahy. Former national PRO, John Manning, penned a charming tribute.

It recalled Joe's fondness for Shandon and how the PPUI's central office was located in Joe's back garden, really near the Phibsboro course.

It was the pre-computer age. Day and night the phone and the door bell would be ringing.

Joe filled so many roles at club, county and national level, including Dublin chairman. He was honoured with the Hall of Fame award in 1992.

He had wonderful wit. His letters were works of art. No better debater, but he remained friends with all. He was an expert on the rules and he produced the game's first Coaching Video.

The game, and indeed life, will miss Joe.
