What about pony races?

As well as two Classics and a number of other top races over the weekend, the Curragh also staged the President of the UAE Derby which is an Arabian horse race and while that is a nice addition for many of the sponsors at HQ, surely more should be done now to bring pony racing to racecourses.

Last season, a pony race was held at Gowran and the Curragh, breaking new ground, and it’s something that should be rolled out more commonly, as it is across the water.

Regularly, racecourses in England stage a couple of pony races before or after racing and the Irish circuit has produced many champion jockeys of the future. You’d have to feel they’d carry more interest than an Arab race too.
