Walsh opts to go on his own

Informative cards at Naas and Leopardstown

The inclusion of Vroum Vroum Mag in the Opera Hat Chase, a good looking beginners chase and two very decent sorts clashing in the concluding bumper should see a lot of attention paid to the action at Naas this afternoon but those with even just a passing interest in jump racing will be glued to Leopardstown tomorrow.

Jockey Ruby Walsh heads to Newbury today to partner Wicklow Brave in the Betfair Hurdle but it was his decision to ride On His Own over Boston Bob in the Hennessy Gold Cup that seemed to surprise many at yesterdays declaration stage.

Walsh admitted earlier in the week that there would be little to separate the pair and he will now ride the Lexus Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up who he hasn't been onboard since winning the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse almost a year ago.

Walsh's decision saw On His Own leapfrog his stable companion at the head of the betting but with most firms going 3/1 the field, it promises to be a cracking, wide-open renewal of the Irish Hennessy.

Foxrock brings the intriguing aspect to the race, as does Home Farm, but there is often great faith put in horses who show promise on their first run of the season and that has been the case in many peoples opinion regarding Carlingford Lough who was fourth in the Lexus Chase at Christmas having not run since Punchestown.

The Galway Plate winner and Grade One winning novice was stepping up to that level for the first time on that occasion and if building on that effort like so many people expect him to, he could well give Tony McCoy a first win in the Irish Hennesssy.

McCoy could have quite a day at Leopardstown as he also rides the very exciting Alvisio Ville in the Deloitte Novices' Hurdle. The five-year-old was the subject of the biggest gamble of the week, but not for tomorrows outing as he was cut from 20/1 into 8/1 for the Neptune Novice Hurdle at Cheltenham.

The Hunters Chase pitches all the leading players from that sphere against each other including Salsify but Prince De Beauchene should be too good.
