A delighted Liam Buckley wants his St Patrick's Athletic side to build on the success of their first FAI Cup win in 53 years by bringing the league title back to Inchicore next season.
With a trophy on board and Europa League football due in 2015, Buckley should have little trouble in keeping his squad intact and now that their Cup curse has been lifted, a title bid next term is next.
"Our objective was to have a go at the league and the Cup, as it was we just came up short and in fairness Dundalk and Cork both did really well," says Buckley, having won his second FAI Cup as manager.
"But we look back on bits and pieces that hopefully can reel in that six, or seven, eight or nine points and have us right in the mix for next year.
"I've no doubt that Dundalk will strengthen up, Cork and Rovers will strengthen up, Derry will be okay and Sligo but from our point of view we want to be right back in the mix next year," added Buckley.
"But I am just delighted, it's a monkey off our back, all this 50 years and whatever. It's great to bury that one."
