South Africa beat Ireland 3-0 in their fifth to eight place play-off at the World League in Johannesburg yesterday.

Ireland will now face a seventh and eighth place play-off against India tomorrow. Victory over India could secure Ireland a World Cup spot, but they will have to wait until the end of the Continental Championships later this year to see if a place is available.

Early on, South Africa won three penalty corners, the third of which Lisa-Marie Deetlefs fired into the net late in the first half, before Roisin Upton hit the post from a penalty stroke just before half-time.

South Africa snatched their second goal when Bernadette Coston drilled the ball into the corner of the goal in the final quarter.

Lilian du Plessis then scored South Africa's third.
