VETERAN striker Jason Byrne has put his revival in form down to the help of the young players surrounding him at Bray Wanderers, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.
Byrne was today named as May's Player of the month by the Airtricity Soccer Writers Association in a season which has seen him move into second place in the all-time goal scorers chart in the League of Ireland, behind the legendary forward Brendan Bradley. The striker, capped twice by Ireland at senior level, had a frustrating season at Dundalk last term but he's been revived at his first senior club, Bray.
"I am really enjoying my football and being back at Bray. People may say it's an achievement to score goals but really, a lot of it is due to the young lads around me," says Byrne.
"It's great playing in a team with the likes of Kieran Waters and Adam Hanlon, who are full of energy and put the ball into the box when needed. They've been a huge help to me."
