We want Rob back: Redknapp

SPURS' boss Harry Redknapp has told Tony Mowbray that there is "no way" he will be allowed to keep Robbie Keane beyond the span of the current loan deal.

Speculation over the last few weeks pointed to an extended stay for Keane at Parkhead but Redknapp has now revealed that he wants him back at White Hart Lane for pre-season in July.

"I don't see us loaning Robbie out again. We paid a lot of money for him. So it's not something I see happening. It would obviously be up to the chairman but I couldn't see it being a possibility," claimed Redknapp.

"I certainly would not want it to be happening. Robbie's only on loan until the end of this season, as far as we're concerned. We want him back so in my mind, there's no way of another loan deal."

Redknapp's comments come at the end of week which saw his assistant Joe Jordan underline the commitment Keane has towards Spurs.

"Without a doubt Keane will return, he's the captain," Jordan said. "Harry Redknapp brought him back here and he was a major player in getting us out of trouble last season, not just on the pitch, but in the dressing-room as well. He was an influential guy, he's a leader, and there's not many of them going about."

Keane's eight-goal haul to date in Scotland has convinced Celtic fans and Mowbray that the club should do everything in its power to make his loan deal permanent.

That now seems to be a complete non-runner, although Keane himself may have strong thoughts about the idea of returning to Spurs and may instead prefer a move to new pastures.

Meanwhile, Mowbray has admitted that he was happy to let his players take some time out at Cheltenham in midweek. Aiden McGeady and Darren O'Dea joined a big group of team mates at the festival meeting for a day's relaxation.

"Sometimes on the back of an intense run of games it's not bad to relieve the pressure on them by getting them away from the training ground for a few days. Let them go and relax," said Mowbray.
