WDSL short passes: Hamilton on the double for Newtown

NEWTOWN JUNIORS.......... 5 WICKLOW ROVERS A........... 1

NATHAN HAMILTON scored twice as Newtown did a Heatons Sportsworld WDSL Under 13 Premier Division treble. Leading 2-0 at half time last Wednesday at Shamrock Park in Rathnew, they scored three second half goals to add the Shield to their collection.

The match was the fifth meeting of the teams in all competitions this season, and saw Juniors boss Hughie get the better of his brother Jimmy, Rovers’ manager. Hamilton headed Newtown in front before Brandon Feely’s 20-yard shot doubled their advantage.

Kieran Bloomfield pulled one back for Wicklow two minutes into the second half. But full back Ryan Taylor’s cross-shot made it 3-1 before Hamilton bundled in the fourth. An Own Goal wrapped up matters six minutes from the end.

Early goals set up Newtown

NEWTOWN JUNIORS.......... 2 ARKLOW TOWN A ..............0

NEWTOWN did an Under 13 Premier Division double by adding the Cup to their League silverware. Two early goals in the space of four minutes did the trick at Shamrock Park.

With just nine minutes on the clock, Dylan Ford raced clear of the Arklow defence, drew goalkeeper Tiernan Mellon and square to Keith Dalton who scored from a tight angle.

Then in the 13th minute, a ‘Town throw saw the ball headed back towards Mellon. But the alert Keane Murphy nipped in and headed the ball over the custodian and to the empty net.
