Umbro Dublin Cup the ideal ‘start’
THE UMBRO TOPFLIGHT DUBLIN CUP is fast becoming a firm fixture on the schoolboy season calendar and, falling just in advance of the season kick-off proper, has proven to be a first class preseason event for so many DDSL, NDSL and SDL clubs,.
It also attracts many overseas and provincial visitors to the Clonshaugh and this season Albion Boys Club, Aberdeen Under 11 and Under 13, Carlow Academy Under 13, Inverness Caledonian Thistle Under 13 & Under 14, Ballymoney United (NI) Under 14 and Under 16, Dumbarton United (Scotland) Under 15, Bangor Rangers (NI) Under 15, Herbertstown FC, Limerick Under 16s have all entered the event.
Hosted at the superbly apppionted AUL Complex on Dublin’s northside and supervised by the ultra reliable DDSL backroom team, close to the airport, it has given many clubs their first experience of playing overseas opposition while also giving them great experience in competition play. “We really enjoyed the experience and the pitches and organisation were great,” said Colm Duff of Home Farm who has been a regular at the tournament. Eddie O’Neill of Drimnagh Celtic is also a big fan of the tournament. “Last year we won the Under 16 Shield. We had a great time and it was ideal for team confidence to win a trophy just before the season kicked off and we’ve entered again this year.” You can find out more about the Umbro Dublin Cup by contacting www.thedublincup. com or Caroline Doggett at 240 1738.
