U17s miss Euro spot after loss to Holland
IRELAND'S U17s have missed out on qualification for the European Championship finals after a defeat to Holland.
John Morling's side are now only playing for pride in the final match of the three-game qualifying tournament against Albania tomorrow as either Holland or Serbia will come through the four-team group and advance to this summer's finals in Slovenia.
Ireland had the ideal start when Derby County man Dylan Hayes put them in front against the Dutch, but Tonny Trindade de Vilhena scored twice to give hosts Holland their 2-1 win.
Next up for Ireland's underage sides is a bid by the U19s to reach the Euro finals. Paul Doolin's team play Ukraine, Israel and hosts Portugal in a qualifying tournament in May, with the winners going on to the U19 finals in Estonia in July.
