NOEL King believes that his young guns will take the lessons from a weekend defeat to the USA into today's U21 test against Russia.
Ireland's U21s went down 1-0 to the Americans in a friendly played in Marbella on Saturday and the side are in action again at the same venue today against Russia (5pm).
Glen Rea (Brighton), Liam Kelly (Reading) and Matty Hamilton (Wigan) all made their U21 debuts on Saturday and King was pleased with their efforts.
"We used 16 players and they all acquitted themselves well. It's been a worthwhile exercise and we look forward to facing Russia," says King.
"Brian Lenihan did very well, Glen Rea did well in midfield, Conor Wilkinson was good up front."
Preston's Alan Browne is added to the squad after he played for his club on Saturday while St Patrick's Athletic's new signing Lee Desmond, injured for the first game on Saturday, could come into the frame today along with fellow Saint Sean Hoare, Eric Grimes, Pierce Sweeney and Kieran Sadlier.
