Amateur Football League Honorary Secretary Noel Kennelly has described gentleman Jack Smith as a man of remarkable qualities following the passing of the former chairman at his home in Raheny aged 86.
Kennelly spoke with reverence for the man who took over from Matt O'Leary as AFL Chairman and who was the visionary who lit the spark on developing what is now the Oscar Traynor Coaching and Development Centre.
Smith, who gained junior international recognition as a player with Home Farm, was was Honorary Chairman from 1966 till 1995 and President from 1995.
Added Kennelly: "Jack was a man to be listened to because when he spoke, he always has something of real relevance to say."
Jack is survived by his widow Kay, sons Bob and Declan and daughter Frances.
