Trap tells fans: dare to dream
GIOVANNI Trapattoni has told Ireland fans to start dreaming about possible Euro 2012 glory in Poland next summer.
With Ireland's first game at the finals now only 92 days away, Trap has already begun the battle of wits with his rival managers, vowing to cause an upset in Poland as Greece did in Portugal at Euro 2004.
"Our chances? You should never say never. It's possible to dream," said Trapattoni at a conference in Poland for the managers of the competing teams, the Italian already relishing the underdog status which Ireland will have.
"Nobody is asking us to win the competition and this can be an advantage, but I'm not expecting a 'well done' if we lose all our games," he said.
"We'll look to surprise everyone in a difficult group, even if Spain and Italy are two battleships."
Reigning European champions Spain are already favourites to retain their crown but Trap is looking forward to a meeting with them.
"Spain lost a friendly game in Switzerland and that gives us confidence about a result," he said.
"Greece won it before so in football everything is possible.
"Every country has the possibility to dream," he concluded.
