Tolka to pass big exam in Wicklow

Herald Metropolitan Cup holders Tolka Rovers put their title on the line tomorrow when they travel to the Garden County to take on Wicklow Rovers.

This is a tricky one for Paul Doyle's Senior Division giants as Wicklow will be something of an unknown quantity.

Three leagues separate these pair. Wicklow are mid-table in Senior 1B, have lost more than they have won, shipped 28 goals in the process and haven't won in their last five league games.

That said, Wicklow at home is a different beast.

They haven't lost yet in five games at their Whitegates base.

They defeated Senior 1 side Dublin Bus in the opening round of the Metro.

Tolka can expect an old fashioned cup tie on a sticky pitch against an underdog that will be fired up and on the scent of their biggest scalp.

The visitors better be in the right mood to navigate around this particular banana skin.

HERALD METROPOLITAN CUP 2nd Round

NEWTOWN RANGERS v MALAHIDE UNITED

United are the form side in the Senior Division at the moment, but that means little in the cup. Rangers could cause a shock. Verdict: Home Win.

BLUEBELL UNITED v DROGHEDA TOWN

Town have lost eight of their 11 league games and it's hard to see them reverse that trend tomorrow. Verdict: Home Win.

SKERRIES TOWN v GREYSTONES

The tight Park Lane pitch ensures no place to hide. Stones are going to need to grind this one out. It will be close. Verdict: Away Win.

KILLESTER UNITED v WAYSIDE CELTIC

Killester defeated Firhouse by two goals to nil in the last round, expect more of the same tomorrow. Verdict: Home Win.

WICKLOW ROVERS v TOLKA ROVERS

Wicklow will be well up for this and they are strong on their home patch, but Tolka should advance.Verdict: Away Win.
