THIRTEEN was the lucky number for the Dublin District Schoolboy League (DDSL) as they began their quest for their 13th SFAI Kennedy Cup this century with a 13-0 win over Longford at the University of Limerick yesterday.
Jack Moylan and Danila Bogdanovs shared eight goals between them - four apiece - for the DDSL. Two-goal Dawson Devoy and James Clarke also got amongst the scorers.
The defending champions will now meet North Tipperary and Kilkenny, who drew 2-2 yesterday, today knowing that two wins will see them into tomorrow's quarter-finals as Group 2 winners.
Meanwhile, the North Dublin Schoolboy League, who beat the DDSL in the 2011 final, recorded a 3-0 win over South Tipperary in Group 1.
David Okpako , Liam McGrath and Harry Dunne netted for the Dubs, who meet Athlone and Sligo/Leitrim today. Athlone beat Sligo/Leitrim 4-1 yesterday to go top of the Group on goal difference.
The SDFL also got off to a winning start. Strikes from Jake Purcell and Harry McEvoy did the business in a 2-1 win over Carlow in Group 8.
If the SDFL top Group 8, which also contains Midlands, who beat Wexford 5-1 yesterday, they will meet the DDSL, if the DDSL top Group 2, in a Dublin derby in the last-eight.
Paul O'Shea and Dylan Murphy netted for Kerry in a 2-0 win over West Cork and hosts Limerick District League put six without reply past West Waterford/East Cork.
Cork got off to a solid start on Shannonside. Goals from Adam Idah and Tyreik Wright (2) saw the Leesiders beat Wicklow 3-0 to go top of Group 6. The Group phase of the tournament concludes at UL today.
