Teenage star Cody Mulhall to train with Hoops
PAT FENLON has offered former Hibs prospect Cody Mulhall the chance to get on the road to recovery with Shamrock Rovers.
But a move to the Hoops is unlikely as U19 cap Mulhall (pictured) is keen to return to Britain for a second attempt at the cross-channel scene.
Fenlon worked hard to bring the highly-rated Mulhall to Hibs from Stella Maris, but the Kildare lad's progress in Edinburgh was halted by a serious knee injury. Mulhall had returned to action with the Hibs U20 side late last year but in a surprise move, last month Mulhall was released by the Scottish club even though his current contract runs until the summer and the club had reportedly suggested they would offer him a 12-month contract extension.
Mulhall is training with the Hoops this week but Fenlon does not expect to be able to lure him to Rovers long-term. "Cody is a real talent and I would love to work with him again but I think he wants to try and get back across the water," says Fenlon.
"So he will come in and train with us for a while so he can work on his fitness, we can help him get his fitness up to speed so he'll be in a better position to try and get a club," added Fenlon.
Fellow Irishman Gareth McCaffrey, who was also released by Hibs last month, is training with the Hoops at the moment and may earn a contract from Fenlon, who remains in the market for fresh talent.
"I'd still like to add a defender and a forward," says Fenlon. "We are well covered in the other areas, especially in midfield where we're very strong. There is some money left in the budget to add to the squad so I will work on that."
