Strikers must carry the extra burden for Liverpool now

Liverpool will have a patched-up defence for the next while, with Fabinho now out injured along with Virgil van Dijk.

And that means there's even more pressure on the front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino to help the team through what could be a very tough and testing time.

It's not about keeping clean sheets for the next few weeks, it's about winning games - and if that means winning 4-3, so be it. They can't get bogged down with worry if every win is a 3-2 or a 4-3, they just need to keep winning and forget about clean sheets.

All they can do is battle through and pick up as many points as they can until the next transfer window as it's a nailed-on certainty that other teams will go through some sort of crisis as well. Like Manchester City at the moment at the other end of the pitch, as they have so many strikers missing.

Teams will have those problems and there's no break between now and January, so it's really hard to get players back to fitness as they can't even train, it's just matches all the time.

So Liverpool will have to rely on the front players. They've had a great defence for the last three years, but they always depended on that front three to win games for them.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have never been a side to sit back and soak up the pressure. They come and attack you. And that will work in their favour now as they'll have more possession and more opportunities to score. But that pressure to score is even more intense now.

They'll have to rely on Joe Gomez and maybe Rhys Williams in the middle of the defence now. Williams did well in midweek, but a run of games in the Premier League would be massive pressure for the 19-year-old. All that Klopp can do is give him the opportunity and see how he reacts.

He could ask Trent Alexander-Arnold to move in or play James Milner back there, maybe play three at the back, but their formation has worked for a few years and the manager won't want to change.
