Stephen Bradley believes that English striker Daniel Carr can rebuild his career with Shamrock Rovers after losing his way in the game.

The Hoops are putting the finishing touches to their squad ahead of the 2018 season kick-off on Friday, and while they retained attackers Gary Shaw, Graham Burke and Brandon Miele from last season's squad, Bradley was on the look-out for another forward.

And he has found one in 24-year-old Carr, who ended up in the English non-league scene, and then the Swedish fourth tier, having shown early promise with Reading.

"He's had a few clubs, he went through a spell where he was really good and had a lot of interest from big clubs, a lot of offers," says Bradley. "Things didn't happen and he lost his way a bit but that happens with most footballers. We've spoken to enough people and got to know him enough to feel that he's a good character and here to do things the right way.

"When you talk to him, you get from him that he knows where he let himself down before. It feels like he has a point to prove, he's really ambitious to show people how good he is. I think Dan will score goals."

Carr is keen to make an immediate impact in Friday's season-opener, the local derby away to Bohemians.

"Hopefully, I can come in with my attributes and it works well for the team," he said. "I've heard about the Bohs and Rovers rivalry and it's going to be fun to play in it. Hopefully, I can add my two pence in there and the team can come away victorious. I'm buzzing for it on Friday," added Carr, eager to make up for lost time. "I was young, you can use all types of excuses (for not playing), but I'm not really looking for that.

"That's football, it's going to happen. You learn a lot about yourself in any tough situations, hopefully, I can use those experiences to steer me forward now," he says.
