both Sporting Fingal and UCD are considered teams for football purists, but it is Liam Buckley's side who have been showing the grit of title contenders, especially after this 2-1 win at Belfield.
UCD are being submerged in the lower depths of the Premier Division and look set to have a fight on their hands to avoid a place in the relegation play-offs. The Students did make the earliest inroads, however, and on 26 minutes Dwayne Wilson found his run infield left unchallenged by the Fingal defence and gave Darren Quigley something to think about as a rasping shot off his left sailed agonisingly over.
Only a minute later Sporting struck the opener. Conan Byrne gave Ger Barron no chance with his long-range effort after a long Shaun Williams' ball found him on the edge of the box.
UCD hit back 12 minutes later -- Ciaran Kilduff with a superb goal as he dispossessed Shaun Maher in the box before rounding Ger O'Brien.
Fingal came back on the offensive following the restart and six minutes in Kenny Browne looped his header over Barron for Sporting's second, after Ronan Finn had presented him with the opportunity.
