Scholes eyes new deal

PAUL Scholes is ready to commit to another contract extension which would stretch his career by another season.

Unable to resist the call of big-time football, Scholes came out of retirement back in January and helped halt a slide which threatened to derail Manchester United's title hopes.

Some, like Patrick Vieira, believe that this was a sign of weakness and that Ferguson was forced to contemplate such a measure only because he didn't have anyone to replace his long-serving midfield general.

But the statistics prove that age is no barrier to success, and Scholes has appeared in all but two of Manchester United's fixtures since he returned in the second week of January.

He started in eight of those games and scored twice, and it now seems as if Scholes' appetite has been fully reignited.

It is thought that Scholes is willing to follow the example of Ryan Giggs by committing to another full season -- and with the blessing of boss Alex Ferguson.
