Salmon scoops winner to break Harps' hearts
Mark Salmon turned from villain to hero to give Longford Town a dramatic 1-0 FAI Cup third-round replay victory over Finn Harps at Finn Park.
Salmon scored from the rebound after his 81st-minute penalty had been saved by Ciaran Gallagher.
It was rough justice on Harps, who put their league troubles behind them and had much the better of the second half, with Paddy McLaughlin, Mark Forker and Packie Mailey all going close.
Meanwhile, in the EA Sports Cup quarter-final, Graham Cummins' 11th goal of the season helped First Division side Cork City beat St Patrick's Athletic 2-1 at Turner's Cross yesterday.
With extra-time looming, Frenchman Vincent Escudé-Candau played a sublime throughball to Cummins and he curled the ball into the St Pat's net.
Derek O'Brien had given the home side the lead in the 19th-minute but Pat's equalised early in the second half as Neil Harney scored with a powerful header.
