Saints move for Irish U19 cap Byrne
St Patrick's Athletic have boosted their strike force for the 2018 season with the signing of Ireland U19 cap Thomas Byrne from Drogheda United.
But Drogheda have made a significant move themselves by appointing Tim Clancy (33) as their new manager.
Retaining key players from last season was the main aim for Saints boss Liam Buckley but he has managed to lure ex-Brighton player Byrne to Richmond Park, the third new face for Pat's after the earlier arrivals of Dean Clarke and Ryan Brennan.
Lee Desmond and Michael Barker also signed new deals with Pats.
Drogheda, relegated at the end of last season, had been looking for a new boss since the exit of Pete Mahon and they have made a brave move with the appointment of Clancy, for his first managerial post. Clancy returned to Ireland in 2015 after a long spell in the UK.
Ex-Sligo boss Dave Robertson also joins the Drogheda coaching staff.
Meanwhile, Sligo Rovers man Gary Boylan has ended speculation about a move away from the Showgrounds by signing a new deal. The defender was linked with a move to Derry City and Shamrock Rovers but he's opted to stay on with Sligo.
