Saints draw Lithuanians
ST PATRICK'S Athletic are off to Lithuania in their European campaign after today's draw for the first qualifying round of the Europa League paired the Saints with Zalgiris Vilnius, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.
St Pat's have enjoyed away European success in Europe in places like Sweden, Latvia and Russia in recent times and Liam Buckley will hope that their away record in Europe stands up as the Saints are away to Zalgiris in the first leg, on July 4th, with the home leg in Richmond Park a week later.
Irish clubs have enjoyed success against opposition from Lithuania in recent times with wins for Cork City (v Ekranas in 2005) and Shelbourne (v Vetra in 2006), though Shamrock Rovers were knocked out of the Champions League by a Lithuanian side 12 months ago.
Drogheda United have been given a much tougher draw however as they will face Swedish outfit Malmo, with the home leg up first, also on July 4th.
Meanwhile Pat Fenlon faces a tough task in his first European campaign in charge of Hibernians as they have been drawn to face Serbian side Vojvodina, with the home leg at Easter Road up first.
WOLVES have confirmed that Ireland international Stephen Ward is up for grabs. New manager Kenny Jackett informed four players - Ward, Karl Henry, Jamie O'Hara and Roger Johnson that they "have officially been made available for transfer." Wolves are also likely to see offers for Kevin Doyle while Stephen Hunt has already left the club.
