Rovers sign ex-Arsenal defender Gilbert
SHAMROCK ROVERS have swooped to sign former Arsenal man Kerra Gilbert, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.
The 24-year-old defender had until recently been playing for Yeovil Town but had learned his trade at Arsenal, making his first team debut in 2005 and also playing Champions League football with the Gunners . He had loan spells with Cardiff, Southend, Leicester and Peterborough before joining Yeovil on a free transfer last year.
"Despite his still young age, he has a lot of experience and I think his best years are very much ahead of him. We have added quality and ability with this signing. He has trained with the team for the last few days and he is hungry to well and make an impact with us this season," said Rovers boss Stephen Kenny.
Meanwhile, Dundalk have re-signed keeper Peter Cherrie. The Scot had been linked with a move away from Oriel Park over the close season but has now agreed to stay on.
