rodgers revs it up

Liverpool boss warns Van Gaal nothing compares to Anfield

BRENDAN Rodgers has warned Louis van Gaal to forget about Manchester United's eye-catching win over Spurs and get ready for a different challenge altogether.

"Anfield is a different game to that," said Liverpool boss.

"United have a lot of talent. They had big investment to bring in world class players. Van Gaal has shown he's a top class manager. The competition in this league is fierce, and it is a very difficult challenge, different to other leagues."

Van Gaal (inset) is more than aware of the importance of this game in the context of Champions League qualification but he has an eye on history as well.

"The next match is against Liverpool, and that is not a ground where Manchester United has won a lot. I want to win against them again. It's very important. I think every player knows the importance of this game. We are in a very crucial stage and cannot lose."

Rodgers' preparations for a crunch game were interrupted by pre-match speculation about the future of Raheem Sterling and he revealed that talks on a new deal have stalled.

"It has been made clear by Raheem's representative and the boy himself he just wants to concentrate on his football and see what can be resolved in the summer," said Rodgers.

"I am sure it will be resolved and the concentration for Raheem is now on his football and it is clear the terms of when those talks will begin again."
