Patrice Evra has been linked with a return to Manchester United - by former team-mate Rio Ferdinand .

Evra has been in and out of the team at Juventus this season, leading the 35-year-old's agent, Federico Pastorello, to suggest the defender could move in January.

Jose Mourinho is yet to settle on a left-back so far this season despite having Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind at his disposal.

Ferdinand and Evra were team-mates at United between 2006 and 2014 before Evra left for Juventus and Ferdinand signed for QPR.

And Ferdinand has hinted the full-back could return to Old Trafford, writing on Instagram: "Patrice Evra, I'm hearing through social media you are coming home."

Evra has only made five Serie A appearances for Juventus this season and Pastorello said last month there is interest from other clubs.

He added: "I have to admit that, like all footballers, he would like to be playing more often.

"I've been receiving a lot of calls, and I don't know where the rumours are coming from, but Patrice is not at all unhappy at Juventus.

"I can only say that there is nothing definite right now about him leaving."

Evra, who joined United in January 2006 and won five Premier League titles, a European Cup, a FIFA World Club Cup and three League Cups with the Reds, signed for Juventus in July 2014, winning two league and cup doubles.
