Rio and Giggs to Fergie's rescue

RIO Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs are ready to ride to Alex Ferguson's rescue after intensive work by Old Trafford medics to get both men fit for the latest episode of Premier League drama against Newcastle.

Fergie watched Manchester City dismiss Liverpool at Eastlands last night and move three points clear at the top.

But he will now lean on his most senior men to maintain contact at the top of the table.

"We've got a crazy amount of injuries and illnesses, yet we're still managing to get the results and long may that continue," said Ferdinand, who hasn't played since December 18.

Also back in the frame is Wayne Rooney, certain to return against the Toon after his Christmas run-in with Ferguson.

Ross makes Dubs move

ROSS O'Carroll has returned to the Dublin hurling panel after a two-year absence, writes Conor McKeon.

O'Carroll left Anthony Daly's squad prior to the start of the 2010 season to play with the Dublin senior footballers but played just one competitive match due to a sciatica injury.
