Red card for Folan against LA
AMERICAN outfit Colorado Rapids have defended their former Ireland striker Caleb Folan after he picked up the first red card of his MLS career.
The Rapids lost 3-1 at home to LA Galaxy, who were missing David Beckham, and were 2-1 down when Folan was dismissed 15 minutes from time for a foul on Juninho.
"I'm not sure it's a sending off. Yes, he lunges for the ball, it's a bad touch. Yes, he makes contact, but it's not got any serious malice in it," said Rapids boss Gary Smith of Folan's dismissal.
Rapids used the Galaxy game to hand a debut to Wicklow-born player Danny Earls, the former Aston Villa trainee. "He had maybe a difficult 10 minutes in the second half but I thought he gave an awful lot and in no way was at fault for any of the goals," added Smith.
