Ramires: Di Matteo right man for the job

CHELSEA midfielder Ramires has expressed his joy at the fact that his club have decided to give Roberto Di Matteo the manager's job.

Di Matteo was handed the role on Wednesday and signed a two-year deal with the London club, ending weeks of speculation about who was set to become the new manager at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old became an important player during Di Matteo's interim reign at the club and has backed the board's decision.

"Chelsea's board made the right decision, it would have been a risk to do anything different," Ramires (pictured below) said.

"A different manager would need time to know the players and might not adapt."

Ramires was booked in the semi-final of the Champions League which meant he was suspended for the final in Munich, but thinks winning the competition is more than enough to warrant Di Matteo landing the job.

He continued: "Di Matteo managed to make Chelsea play the way he planned and won the world's most important club competition.

"Thus, he deserves to be regarded as one of the most important managers nowadays."

Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel also saluted Di Matteo's appointment.

Mikel said the former Chelsea star deserved the two-year contract. "I congratulate Roberto Di Matteo on his appointment. He truly deserved it," Mikel said.

"I also commend the board (of Chelsea) for this decision which is very good and important for the team.

"He has been around for a while and he turned around the fortunes of the club when almost everyone had lost hope for us to win both the Champions League as well as the FA Cup. Everybody at Chelsea loves and wants him. This will help him to do well."

Mikel enjoyed a new lease of life at Stamford Bridge when Di Matteo took over the reins of the club following the dismissal of Andre Villas-Boas within the past season.

Meanwhile, reports in Italy are claiming Chelsea are preparing to bid £20million for 22-year-old Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic.
