Posh re-open escape route for Greene

AARON Greene (pictured right) hopes he can escape the financial chaos of Bohemians and seal a deal with League One side Peterborough United in the coming days.

The Dubliner, 20, is confident that he will get the chance to play first-team football in England and impress under Darren Ferguson as the Posh maintain their campaign for promotion to the Championship.

Former Galway United man Greene spent last season with Bohs after a proposed move to Peterborough 12 months ago collapsed due to the compensation demands of his old schoolboy club. Though he was used sparingly by Pat Fenlon with just five starts in 18 league appearances, he still made an impression. Ferguson is now back at Peterborough after a spell in charge of Preston and the son of the Manchester United boss hasn't forgotten Greene as he has asked the Bohs man to report for training on Monday with a view to doing a deal instantly.

Greene's contractual situation is messy as he is technically not under contract with Bohs, though the Dublin club could make a claim for payment as they sent Greene a retainer last year, but the player hopes that red tape will not yet again deny him a chance to play in England.

"I will train on Monday and meet the manager after that for talks, but hopefully it will all go okay," Greene said.

"I'm hoping the deal can be worked out without any problems because I really want to get away this time.

"What's gone on at Bohemians is very frustrating for me and all of the players.

"I think I would get a chance over there. Darren Ferguson is a manager who likes to play young players. If you're good enough and ready he'll give you a chance," Greene added.

"Peterborough are a big club and they have a good chance of winning promotion."

A deal certainly looks closer this time and if the paperwork goes through this week, Greene could make his debut against Colchester next Friday, where he'd be up against Bohs team-mate Conor Powell.
