Pearce: Get Kane for U21s

MICK McCarthy has defended his decision to rest Ireland striker Daryl Murphy for their midweek defeat to Leeds.

But the Waterford native will be back in the starting XI for the weekend meeting with Brentford.

"I had no problem with the team changes whatsoever, I thought Luke Varney and Chris Wood played well," said McCarthy, who omitted leading scorer Murphy and Freddie Sears for the 2-1 loss at Elland Road.

"They were a real handful. The two lads, Murphy and Sears, will be fresh for Saturday.

"They'll start on Saturday. That's not cost us the game by any stretch of the imagination."
