Pats to try and jump through Hoops while Bohs host Sligo
NO SURPRISE from the draw for the semi-finals of the FAI Cup last night as, according to all the predictions, the league's top two, Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians, were kept apart.
But there is a local derby for St Patrick's Athletic as they have been paired with Rovers, the Hoops at home in that tie, while the other semi-final sees Sligo Rovers travel to Dublin to take on Bohemians in a repeat of the 1983 final.
"Obviously, it's a little disappointing for us because everybody wants a home draw in the semi-finals of a cup but it looks to have worked out well for the FAI," said Pats boss Pete Mahon.
"They'll want a full house at the Aviva for the final and most people probably feel that Rovers-Bohs final is their best chance of getting it.
"Funny, I was only saying to the lads before training that I had a feeling this is the way it might work out and there you go. It looks like I'm a prophet as well as a football manager.
"Anyway, we've gone to Tallaght and won already once this season and the intention now will be to go there and do it again.
"It's another one-off, you don't know on the day what's going to happen. I said at the start of the season there's a name on the cup, I still believe that. I just hope it's ours."
The semi-finals will be played on the weekend of October 17.
