JOB DONE for Ireland's players as they did what was asked of the new manager at the start of a new era for the Irish game.

"That was what we needed, a clean sheet and a couple of goals, it's Latvia at home and we expected to win comfortably and we did," said John O'Shea, the Ireland defender picking up his 94th cap.

"The manager asked us to win the game and keep a clean sheet, but also to enjoy it, to start off with a good press for the first 15 minutes especially.

"The crowd turned out in impressive numbers for us and it was good to give the manager new start.

"As a start for the new manager that is very positive, Roy and Martin are two natural winners, they want the game played the right way. We want to press teams hard, play when we have to, get in the box. We did all those things last night," added O'Shea, playing under his former Sunderland boss for the first time.

James McCarthy enjoyed another 90 minutes in the Ireland shirt and he found a new sense of belief in the Irish side.

"We played it out from the back from the start last night which I found very positive and we got a good result," said the Everton man.

"Martin has brought a buzz about the place, with Roy, and we're all going to enjoy it. Roy has had a massive influence, he's been taking us out and talking to us day to day basis and that's great."
