MARTIN O'NEILL has had further words with James McClean about his latest Twitter outburst but there is no question of any disciplinary action.

"I've reminded James. It's been a fairly lengthy time since I last mentioned it. There's been a lot of tweeting under the bridge since then," said O'Neill with a smile.

"If I was to leave players out because they've tweeted, I'll be in serious trouble down the line. If I leave him out it won't be anything to do with the tweeting."

However, there was no disguising O'Neill's intent and it is likely that a formal policy on social media will be in place before the players gather for the next friendly against Serbia on March 5.

"I wasn't overly pleased," added O'Neill. "James seems to enjoy the Twitter and his performance merited one or two tweets from those praising him rather than him getting embroiled again.

"Even before I arrived, there was a match day ban. I'll have a look at it. I'm experiencing these things again. There has to be some respect. Sometimes, they don't realise after all of this time that it's a public media and these things are picked up."
