MARTIN O'Neill celebrated Robbie Brady's sparkling brace against the USA and now hopes that he can build on a great international performance with a string of Premier League appearances for Hull.
"He's getting in now," said O'Neill, noting progress for Brady at Hull. "He's a lovely footballer and it's nice to actually say it to him . He was great and he's genuinely a really nice lad," said O'Neill.
"I don't know where people got this impression of him before but in my dealings with him he's been really excellent. It was really nice to see him play well.
"The goal, the second goal. I just knew his confidence was so high. He wanted to take the free kick and he just felt that from the moment he was striking it that the wall had stopped off and he scored the goal."
O'Neill obviously wants to see Brady and others on the fringe of first team's making inroads at their clubs during the four months between now and the crucial qualifier against Poland at the Aviva in March.
"Things happen at club level and it's a long time, it's a long time for me. These players go back now and start thinking about their club futures and we'll see."
O'Neill revealed that his pursuit of McGoldrick has been going on for some time.
"When I came into the job, I didn't know who was eligible but we've been searching around now for some time with him.
"It's finally got there. I knew about David McGoldrick but I didn't know that he had any Irish connections.
"This was maybe a year and a half or two years ago, I think he was at Nottingham Forest for a little while. I was aware of him as a player but not of his nationality.
"It's been going on a long time now, a long time.
"There have been a few hiccups along the way but it's there now, it's fixed up.
"And he's been really, really keen. That's the nice thing about it and it's the same with Cyrus Christie.
"That was a wee bit more straightforward. Of course, I had an opportunity to see him quite a number of times and I knew he wouldn't let us down.
"It's a nice option, a nice thing to have there. He's played there against the USA and put a marker down which was great and I think he feels pretty good about it."
