O'Gara on Blue alert
Dublin forward set for his first start since 2015 cruciate woe
Eoghan O'Gara is poised to make his first Dublin start in almost two years when the All-Ireland kingpins tackle Tyrone in Croke Park tonight.
The Templeogue Synge Street powerhouse has been named at No 14 for their Allianz FL clash with the Ulster champions (7.0).
And presuming he doesn't drop out at the 11th hour, O'Gara can look forward to his first competitive start since featuring away to Kerry on March 1, 2015 - ironically Dublin's last competitive defeat before they embarked on their current run of 30 games unbeaten.
The 31-year-old tore his anterior cruciate ligament while on club duty later that same month. He made his competitive Dublin comeback as a sub against Roscommon last April and his subsequent championship involvement was confined to four late cameos.
Jim Gavin announced his team to face Tyrone last night, showing just one change from the line-up that started in Cavan with O'Gara displacing Kevin McManamon.
There is one obvious caveat: O'Gara was originally named to start against Cavan but was one of three last-minute omissions.
Ger Cunningham has chosen a handful of NHL debutants - including three of last year's minor team, Paddy Smyth, Cian O'Sullivan and Dónal Burke - for the Dublin hurlers' curtain-raiser against Tipperary (5.0)
There's also a new-look midfield pairing of Ben Quinn and Galway native Dómhnaill Fox, while Oisín O'Rorke and Fionntán Mac Gib flank Burke in a rookie full-forward line.
