North puts Saints in second
ST PATRICK’S Athletic moved up to second place in the Premier Division table as two goals in six minutes saw them recover from a one-goal deficit to claim all three points against Dundalk at Oriel Park.
The home side drew first blood when a Ross Gaynor corner found Colin Hawkins at the back post and the big centre-back prodded the ball past Gary Rogers.
Pats boss Pete Mahon made a double substitution in the 63rd minute, throwing on Shane McFaul and Ian Daly in a bid to retrieve the situation and his roll of the dice paid off as the Saints pulled level six minutes later.
Derek Doyle picked out Daly in the box and after a neat sidestep away from Dean Bennett, the substitute hammered the ball past Peter Cherrie for a fine goal.
Danny North squandered a golden chance in the 73rd minute, but he made no mistake two minutes later, peeling away at the near post to guide Daryl Kavanagh's cross inside the far post.
