'Noel must earn place'

NOEL HUNT has rediscovered his scoring touch with two goals in his last three games for Championship side Reading, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

But the striker still has a long way to go before he can win back his place in the Ireland squad, according to his big brother Stephen.

"Noel is in good form now, he's played very well in the last couple of games but he needs to make a big impact to get into the squad," says Stephen.

"He needs to have some very good form and a couple of injuries.

"I hope that no one gets injured so I'd love to see Noel get in on his own form and his own merits."

Noel, 29, made his senior debut against Poland in November 2008 and won three senior caps, including a memorable appearance at home to Montengero when both brothers started in the Ireland team. However, that game - in October 2009 - was his last appearance to date for Ireland.
