Newcastle 4 Preston 1
Newcastle sealed their place in the Premier League for next season with a resounding win over Preston North End at St James' Park last night.
Rafael Benitez's side also narrowed the gap on leaders Brighton to four points after last night's win.
The game had plenty of Irish interest, with former Dundalk defender Andy Boyle starting for the visitors, alongside Aiden McGeady and Alan Browne, while goalkeeper Rob Elliot and Ciaran Clark featured in the Newcastle starting XI.
Ayoze Perez opened the scoring for Newcastle before Jordan Hugill equalised for Preston. Christian Atsu, however, eased home fans' nerves with a strike just before half-time.
Daryl Horgan and Daryl Murphy were introduced as second-half substitutes for PReston and Newcastle respectively as a 65th-minute Matt Ritchie penalty made it 3-1 before Perez grabbed his second of the game two minutes later.
