McGeady: We can drive on
MISSION accomplished. Martin O'Neill flew out of Tbilisi with three points and the perfect start to Ireland's Euro 2016 qualifying campaign thinks to Aiden McGeady's wizardry.
"Aiden is the only player capable of scoring that goal. He is a fantastic talent. He thinks he should be up there among the very finest players. He has that talent and showed it tonight," said a delighted O'Neill.
"There is a lot of talk about his goals to game ratio but at least that's improving now," he added with a grin.
"We controlled the game, when they scored it changed the game, changed the momentum of the game and gave the crowd something to cheer about and there were moments in the second half when we had cause to be worried.
"I was surprised Georgia looked as if they were settling for a draw. It was their first game and players get tired and they were thinking 'we've secured a point', a decent start to the competition."
A delighted McGeady was purring after the game but believes he still has room to improve: "Obviously! I've played well but not still what I'm capable of. I'm off to a great start, so is the team and hopefully I can build on it."
