McDermott eyes Wolves job
BRIAN McDermott has emerged as a surprise contender for the job at Wolverhampton Wanderers, as Steve Bruce last night considered becoming the latest candidate to pull out.
McDermott, the Reading manager, is understood to have held talks with Wolves chairman Steve Morgan after an official approach was made to the Championship club.
The 50-year-old has established a good reputation at the Madejski Stadium after taking over in January 2010, leading Reading to the play-off final last season.
McDermott is now firmly in the frame to succeed Mick McCarthy and is expected to hold talks with Reading's new owner, Anton Zingarevich, next Monday over the prospect of leaving for Molineux.
Bruce is understood to be running out of patience with the selection process. Alan Curbishley has made it clear he is not interested in the job after being interviewed last week, and Bruce is also understood to be considering his options.
