McClean welcome but no interest from exile Ireland - Given
SHAY GIVEN wants Giovanni Trapattoni to throw open the door to Euro 2012 latecomers like James McClean - but he's not expecting Stephen Ireland to walk through it any time soon.
"Stephen has never spoken to me about it and as far as I know, he hasn't spoken to Richard Dunne or Robbie Keane while he was with us," claimed Given. "I think he's made it quite clear he's not interested."
McClean's claim for a place on the plane to Poland has been growing and Given believes that the door should remain open right up to selection day.
"I think the nucleus of the squad is already picked. As I said, I'm not the manager but I think the manager will be saying at the back of his head: 'Well, if McClean keeps firing in goals every week, it will be hard to say he can't squeeze in'.
"I believe there is space for one or two and we shouldn't close a door on anyone."
