McCarthy return is Silva lining
Everton boss Marco Silva hopes that James McCarthy will be a big addition to the squad once he’s fully fit.
McCarthy has yet to play for Silva as the Ireland midfielder has been sidelined since January, due to a double leg fracture. He has been making progress in his recovery and is poised for a return to first team action and Silva is eager to have the ex-Wigan player available to him.
“I know his quality,” Silva said of McCarthy. “Last season was difficult for him because when he started to play and get to a good moment he had a bad injury again.
“He is working hard to achieve a good physical condition. But he is a quality player. He is powerful, strong in the challenge and that is something we need in some moments.
“The profile of some of our other players is not like his and James can give us these type of qualities.”
McCarthy has not played for Ireland in two years as his last cap came in the World Cup qualifying win away to Moldova in October 2016.
