JAMES McCarthy turned up for a meeting with Giovanni Trapattoni on his own ten days ago and immediately swept away any doubts about his allegiance to the Irish cause.
The Wigan midfielder chose to face Trapattoni and Marco Tardelli without any minders or agents in a hotel near Wigan ten days ago and quickly put to bed any suggestion that he was ready to jump ship and declare for Scotland.
Back in February, Trapattoni claimed that McCarthy had to "be a man" and make up his own mind without the help of third parties like agents.
But sources suggest that the two men had an amicable meeting of minds in the Wrightington Hotel and went on to settle any outstanding issues.
McCarthy is named in the Irish squad for the March 26 clash with Macedonia along with Robbie Keane and Richard Dunne. The only man missing is Shay Given.
