McCarthy can leave 'if big club comes in'
WIGAN have told Ireland star James McCarthy that he will be allowed leave the Championship club – but only if one of the top clubs in England come in for him.
McCarthy began life in the Championship with Wigan last Saturday, as interest from Premier League sides like Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle has not led to a formal bid and manager Owen Coyle has told McCarthy that he must aim high if he is to leave.
"It was difficult for James in the summer, his head was all over the place," said Coyle.
"I've said to James that if a Champions League club comes in for him – and he's that good he can play for anyone in that top six – I won't stand in his way.
"We know that rival clubs are more than aware of the quality we have at this football club. All I can do as a manager is prepare them for the games. But we still haven't even had an enquiry for any of our players let alone a firm bid."
