McAllister dreams of Ireland call-up
SHEFFIELD United man David McAllister hopes to follow the example of players like Glenn Whelan and force his way into the senior Ireland squad.
McAllister has never been capped at any level and while he admits that a place in the Irish panel is a long way off, it is still in the back of his mind.
"If you ask me now, I'd have to admit that the Ireland squad isn't even on the agenda. But 12 months ago I'd never have thought I'd be in the first team at a big English club like Sheffield United so you never know what can happen in football," says McAllister, 22.
"I'm taking it one step at a time, first thing I have to do is establish myself with Sheffield United but if I can do that, other things could follow.
"I look at people like Keith Andrews and Glenn Whelan. Three years ago they were nowhere in terms of Ireland, but they worked hard, caught the eye of the Ireland manager and got into the team."
