EVERTON boss Robetto Martinez admits that the club need to get to the bottom of the persistent injuries which have plagued James McCarthy (above).
The midfielder has missed Ireland's last two games and is also a doubt for the club's meeting with West Ham on Saturday and Martinez feels that the club need to examine why the player has been sidelined.
"We need to assess it. Maybe it's managing the work he does in training. We need to find the right formula because we need to make sure we don't get these sort of injuries on a regular basis," said Martinez.
"He's a super fit boy and he shouldn't be picking up these sort of knocks. James has played a huge amount of games and is still a very young man. He's had this same injury before but not in the same leg.
It's James' second injury of this nature in the last month and that's a bit of a worry. We need to give him perfect treatment and make sure he is fully fit."
He added "James was desperate to be involved with his national team but he couldn't make it."
