Wigan manager Malky Mackay insists he has nothing to prove as he prepares to come up against his former club Cardiff.

The Scot has not faced the Bluebirds since being controversially sacked by their owner Vincent Tan in December 2013 following a long bitter feud between the pair.

Mackay's current side host Cardiff at the DW Stadium tonight and he has stressed he is fully focused on Wigan's fight to stay in the Sky Bet Championship.

A 3-0 home defeat to Charlton on Friday night and subsequent results elsewhere 24 hours later have left the Latics nine points from safety with 14 games to go.

"It's never about proving a point, absolutely not," Mackay said.
