LOUIS van Gaal will throw Wayne Rooney straight into the Manchester derby on Sunday and brushed aside any suggestion that his skipper is carrying an injury.

LOUIS van Gaal will throw Wayne Rooney straight into the Manchester derby on Sunday and brushed aside any suggestion that his skipper is carrying an injury.

"Rooney was not injured, the media was writing that. He was never injured. Maybe his shoes were too tight, that is possible," Van Gaal said when it was pointed out the Rooney appeared to be limping in midweek.

"He was never injured. He shall play, he is my captain.

"That is all I can say to you because he is my captain and he shall play."

Van Gaal clearly fancies his chances and ackonwledged that this derby is biggest he will ever be involved in.

"This is the biggest derby that I shall manage," he said.

"It is one of 38 matches we have to play, but for the fans it is unbelievably big as a rivalry. It is our goal, to win."
