LOUIS van Gaal says his Manchester United side will now show their true face after finally kick-starting their season with a clinical 4-0 dismissal of QPR.

Angel di Maria made his home debut and put in a superb all-round display, capped with the opening goal of the afternoon.

Ander Herrera and Wayne Rooney added a goal each before the break, before Juan Mata wrapped it up in the second half.

And the Old Trafford boss was delighted with the impact of other new arrivals Radamel Falcao, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo, who all made their debuts.

"I said before the game: let us make a new start.

"That's important as after the transfer period, we can now work on a team-building process and make ourselves better every week - we have done it, I believe," said van Gaal.

"It is a very good start. The result is fantastic, but we can get better and we have made a very good new start."

"The most important thing from today is that we created goals.

"In the other matches we were the better team on the pitch but we didn't make goals.

"Now we have made four goals and that gives a boost to every player," he added, especially pleased with that early goal from Angel di Maria.

"The first goal is very important, we trained with it before the game but he did it at the right moment.

"I think the new players fitted in very well. It's always difficult to come in and adapt to the rhythm of the Premier League but they did very well - not only Di Maria."
